The January birthstone, Garnet steams from the Latin word "Garanatus" meaning "seedlike" which actually is in reference to the fruit, Pomegranate and dates back to 3000 B.C. Back in these times, young men would wear the Garnet stones in a necklace form which was given them to encourage strength and durability, just like the stone itself.
Garnet is best known for its deep reds, orangey, brownish colors but in its flawless form it is actually a clear green color known as Demantoid, a very rare and soft stone. Garnet can be mostly found in East Africa, but also in areas of India, South America, and even parts of the United States.
