5 Reasons Why You Should NEVER Buy From an Online Only Retailer!
March 6, 2018
1. Education
One word that goes miles. When you visit Toodies, we educate you and make you comfortable about purchasing diamonds and show you the difference between each and every diamond. No diamond is alike, not in any single way. Unfortunately, just because a diamond has a GIA Grading Report, doesn’t really define it as a great stone. We explain, show examples, and truly educate you in your diamond search. Do you really know what an H Color, SI1 Clarity really means based on an internet search?
2. If a Price Seems to be to Good to be True, Most Likely it is!
“Why is that diamond price so good?” You might ask yourself. Well, diamonds are different. Diamonds aren't like purchasing a shirt at your favorite store because not all diamonds are alike, while that white button down shirt on the rack is the same quality across the rack. Diamonds are solely priced based on their actual qualities as a whole and not off of a simple GIA Grading Report (which is truly a piece of paper defining basic qualities on a generic scale). Some stones will “Face Up” cleaner than others, even though they have the same qualities on a GIA Grading Report, which will determine specific pricing on stones. Where are the inclusions? What kind of inclusion does the particular stone have? Do you want your loved one to wear a beautiful stone that shines or a cheap stone with limited brilliance and fire?
3. She is Going to Wear it Every Single Day for the Rest of her Life!
Imagine years from now telling your kids how you designed their Mothers Engagement Ring and it was made from scratch right in your home town. Create a story you can share with your family and friends for years to come. Memories are what life is about, and you will never forget the time you designed something yourself. Buying from the internet, you are a number, most rings are made overseas, and everyone around you has the same ring. Make it more special than she expects, she will always appreciate it.
4. Most Internet Retailers Do NOT Own Their Own Inventory
Did you know that when you look at diamonds on a internet retailers websites, they actually don’t own any/all of their own inventory? What these retailers do is take a wholesalers inventory from overseas and post it as their own site with a slight mark up to make themselves look like the “Top Dogs” with big inventories. They don't stock any stones in their offices, so if you were to ask questions about the stones, they can't truly answer your questions besides reading off of a GIA Grading Report.
We did a test of this and decided to buy a diamond online to see what would happen, and how it would arrive. We decided to purchase a .75ct Round Brilliant Cut Diamonds accompanied with a GIA Grading Report. The diamond we chose was a .75ct H Color, SI1 Clarity, Excellent Cut, Excellent Polish, Excellent Symmetry, and No Fluorescence diamond. About two days after we purchased the stone we received a phone call stating the diamond was no longer available and it was an “error in the system”. We asked what had happened, and they said it was “pre-sold”. Interesting enough so we requested to cancel the purchase and our money was refunded immediately. It was confirmed that the diamond was indeed, never owned by them.
5. What Happens if the Ring Has an Issue?
Questions you might not know to ask when purchasing a ring: What happens when you present the ring and it doesn’t fit? What happens when you need an insurance appraisal? What happens if a stone becomes loose? What happens if a small stone falls out of the mounting after a few weeks of wearing it? Do these online retailers really offer any services at all that are most important overall?
When you purchase an engagement ring from Toodie’s, these questions are always included in our services. The ring doesn’t fit after you present it? No problem, we will size it at NO charge. Need an insurance appraisal? Its included. What happens if a stone becomes loose or falls out? We stand behind it and will fix it within two days (at most!)
